Why Abdominoplasty?
There are three layers of tissue of the abdomen; skin, fat, and fascia. When patients present to Dr. Stein’s practice concerned about the appearance of their abdomen the problem has to do with one or more of these layers. With aging and weight fluctuations, skin laxity increases leading to redundant skin. With weight gain, the thickness of the fat layer increases. With pregnancy, straining and weakened core muscles the fascia stretches leading to an abdominal bulge. During an abdominoplasty Dr. Stein will use liposuction to reduce the thickness of the fat layer, perform internal sutures (called a rectus plication) to tighten your fascia and remove the excess skin to look tight and youthful. During your consultation Dr. Stein will examine your abdomen to determine what procedures will best address your concerns.

What Can You Expect Abdominoplasty Surgery?
Whatever the issue is, Dr. Stein will examine you in detail, diagnose the problem and tell you in detail how he plans to correct it. You will have an opportunity to ask any questions you like to help you feel comfortable and confident about the process. After surgery, you will meet with Dr. Stein regularly so he can make sure your breasts are healing appropriately and that you are recovering well. Dr. Stein is well-known for his excellence in patient care and will be by your side every step of the way.
What Is the Recovery Like Abdominoplasty Surgery?
Recovery is patient specific. Most patients take Tylenol and Advil alone after surgery and are pain free after a couple days. A muscle relaxant and a stronger pain killer will be prescribed in case you need it. You can shower over your incisions 2 days after surgery and resume your normal activities shortly thereafter. You will be wearing a compressive garment over your abdomen for 1 month. Exercise can start 4 weeks after surgery once Dr. Stein confirms that your scars are healing well.
